Learn More About Mississippi Beef

Mississippi might be best known for the mighty river that rolls through it, but it’s more than just a river. The state also has an amazing beef production industry. There’s a good chance that the steak or burger you’re eating right now came from a Mississippi raised steer.

There are two different ways that cattle get raised in Mississippi. Some farmers have opted to turn their animals out to pasture and try to keep their feed limited to grass in the summer and hay in the winter months. Beef raised this way is called grass fed beef. It takes a little longer for the animal to reach it’s market weight, which is why the Mississippi grass fed beef costs a little more when you get it from the grocery store. Grass fed beef is leaner and a little healthier than grain fed beef. There’s very little fat to be found in the grass fed Mississippi hamburger.

Other cattle producers have selected to raise their cattle in feed lots and feed them corn. Cattle raised in feed lot situations are very healthy and enjoy good lives. Since they’re fed corn which encourages growth, the feed lot cattle tend to grow faster and larger than their grass fed cousins. The meat will be very tender and explode with flavor. If you order a 20 ounce steak, it most likely came from an animal that was raised on a feed lot.

Mississippi beef producers are committed to raising healthy animals. They use modern technology, common sense, and experience to make sure they practice safe farming techniques and increase sustainability. Mississippi beef producers participate in the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program which helps them learn how to raise beef in a safe and practical manner.

Getting a Boat for Your Water Front Property

It’s impossible to live alongside a body of water for very long before your thoughts turn to getting a boat. Even a small rowboat will be enough to get you out on the water on a regular basis, and will increase the amount of enjoyment you get from your water frontage. When it comes to boats, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

Check with the community and find out what the boating restrictions are for the body of water you live on. The depth of the water, the amount of swimmers it gets, if people use it for water skiing, and how active the fishing can influence the types of watercraft allowed. You don’t want to spend a lot of money on a great boat and find out you won’t be allowed to use it. While you’re gathering information about the types of water craft you will be able to use, you should also learn the rules about what times of the day your ability to use the water will be restricted. Lakes that attract a high number of fisherman will often forbid speed boats from using the lake after the sun has set.

Before your new watercraft can come home, you need to think about where you’re going to be keeping it. The great thing about having water front property will be that you don’t have to rent a marina slip or trailer your boat all over the place. You’ll be able to keep your boat at home and use it whenever you want to get out on the water. However, you will need to have a dock. There are many great Walkways & Boardwalks available at http://www.wickcraft.com/Testimonials.aspx to help you get started.

There are lots of things that need to be considered when it comes to docks. How big a water craft you’re getting, if you’ll be using your dock for entertainment purposes, your budget, and whether you’ll be able to use the dock all year round will need to be taken into consideration. You can get some design ideas at http://www.wickcraft.com/Walkways_PublicProjects.aspx or view complete track systems at http://www.wickcraft.com/TrackSystems.aspx.

When it comes to getting a boat dock installed on your property, you want to try to imagine where you’ll be in ten and fifteen years and the type of watercraft you’ll have. Do you think you’ll be using the same boat, or do you see yourself upgrading to something bigger and fancier. If you think an upgrade will be in your future, you’ll want to get a dock set up for the larger boat. The amount of waterfront property you have and the type of equipment that can be brought onto your property will also affect the type and size of the dock you can get installed.

No matter what kind your docks needs might be, make sure you get one that’s been made from top quality products. You should also invest in high quality Wickcraft Pier Systems Accessories so your new waterfront paradise will be fully equipped and ready for you to enjoy.

Find the Latest Mississippi News Online

It has been years since I lived in the state of Mississippi. Over twenty years actually, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t still take an interest in what goes on with those who are still living in my home town. I have lots of family that still calls Mississippi their home, so travel back down there quite often. But when I can’t get down there to see them or any of the friends that I left behind, I still want to read about Mississippi news.

So what better place to look than online? I can always count on the local newspaper and television stations to include the best Mississippi news stories on their websites. When I read about what it going on and how it might affect people I love, I feel like I am still a resident of Mississippi. There are many great sites that offer news that interests me, but the local stations seem to do the best job.

I like that they offer a more personal look at the news in Mississippi and specifically in my hometown. Another great thing is that my favorite anchor is still doing the news every night. When I see his face on the Mississippi news website, it brings back some great memories of sitting around with my parents and watching the news every night after dinner. I even enjoy the light hearted stories about the people of Mississippi. They always make me happy to be from the great state of Mississippi!

My First Boat Ride on the Mississippi River

It is amazing that I lived right next to the Mississippi River for years and never actually went out on a boat into the river. I mean, it has been just sitting there and I never really even paid attention to it. I have been over the river many, many times across various bridges. I remember as a child we would hold our breath until we got to other side. Thank goodness it isn’t a very wide river!

It wasn’t until I was married and had a child of my own that I decided it was time to go on a boat ride. Well, I didn’t really decide, but while we were visiting my parents, they invited us to go with them on the local riverboat. I was excited, but scared at the same time. I am a pretty good swimmer, but I was still deathly afraid of drowning. Something that helped me really enjoy the ride was that my son was also on his first boat ride on the river.

He wasn’t sure at first, but after he realized he was safe inside the boat, he was super excited to be on the water. Not all two year olds can say that they travelled on a river boat up and down the Mississippi River, but he can. He can’t wait until the next trip back to see Grandma and Grandpa so he can go down to the river and go on the boat again and Mom and Dad, me and my husband, are pretty excited too.

Good Use of Taxpayer Money and Legislative Time?

Recent news from Mississippi’s legislation: Mississippi might just have won the prize for dumbest laws being written into the books recently with a piece of legislation that allows special groups to create specialty plates. About 36 groups petitioned and were approved for the new tags. Specialty tags that were approved were from clubs that included hunting and sportsmen’s clubs, high schools, and nonprofit foundations.

The interesting thing about the laws to get a specialty tag in Mississippi is that any group can get a tag so long as at least 300 tags are applied for and purchased. So if your family is extensively large and all of you want to get the same clannish tag, then by all means go right ahead. Mississippi is the only state where The Klan can still get a license plate. Oh, but the amusement of Mississippi laws just gets better.

A town called Saltillo just passed a ban on saggy pants. That’s right. If your pants don’t cover your butt, you could be facing a fine of $50. If you get cited more than once for this offense, then you could be looking at upwards of $200. The people of this small town evidently had nothing better to do with their time and resources than to watch other people and their fashion choices. So, of course, they made a ban on the saggy bottom boys. Pants must cover the entire rear end, with no visible ‘cracks’ showing. This is interesting. They do not have a similar law for exposed thongs, bras, or other questionable exhibitions. Oh Mississippi, how you do make us proud with your great leaps forward in legislation

A Mississippi Group Seeks Required Certification For Midwives

As more and more women are choosing to give birth at home, birth safety is often at the forefront of discussion between expectant mothers and their caregivers. Giving birth with the help of a trained midwife is becoming more common and a Mississippi group is asking that the state require all midwives to have state certification. The Mississippi Friends of Midwives Group says that not having state level certification for midwives can be dangerous for both mom and baby, and for the midwifery industry as a whole. More often than not, home births are generally safe, but as with any labor and delivery, things can go wrong quickly, and emergency medical intervention may be needed in seconds or minutes.

When a mother gives birth at home with a midwife, she is trusting that midwife has completed many hours of study and training and while she may not have a medical degree, she is educated in the field of obstetrics and both prenatal and postnatal care of both mother and baby. The Friends of Midwives say that by putting certification standards in place, it will be a catalyst for even safer home deliveries.

The state legislature, however, doesn’t seem to agree. They believe that trained and certified nurse midwives/practitioners, who do have a medical degree and most often practice in hospitals over home settings, are the way to go and lowering the certification standards does the birth industry a disservice.

Needless to say, it is a hot button issue for both sides. A bill in favor of adopting a standard for certification of midwives is currently in the Mississippi House for review, as well as the Mississippi Senate. The two groups have until Tuesday, March 6, to act on the bill, and decide which way to go next.

Killing Time Before We Take the Stage

Drizzle pushed his black hair up until it stood in jagged spikes over his face. He smiled. “Perfect.” His green eyes flashed as he stepped back and admired himself. He clipped his lucky chain around his neck and sighed. “Done. Now what will I do?”

This particular venue had required that the entire band arrive six hours early for sound check. Which, quite honestly, was completely unnecessary. A good sound man could have their board levels mixed in a good fifteen to twenty minutes. Three vocals across the front, two guitars, a bass, and, of course, drums were all that had to be configured.

He sat back on the couch and read, with amusement, some of the colorful writing other bands had left on the wall. He resisted the urge to go for his own sharpie that he kept in his left pants pocket for signatures. “Luckily,” he said. “These guys are smart enough to keep me busy with WiFi.”

Drizzle smiled and reached over the couch for his laptop case. It was a favorite pass time of his. He remembered the first time he had heard of Bet365 online casinos was when his mother was fussing at his dad to “Get up out of that darn chair and do something around this house besides playing on them online casinos all day long!” Drizzle laughed. He had figured anything good enough to tick his mother off had to have some amount of entertainment value involved right?

It wasn’t long before Drizzle was hooked on Sky Vegas games and spinandwin.com. After he put down his bass every night he would pick up his laptop and play blackjack until his eyelids grew too heavy to hold open. He wasn’t sure what the appeal was. True enough, that the games were simply fun but he was always the type to reach for the first person shooter or the role-playing game.

Perhaps, it was his secret obsession to one day play a gig in Vegas. He always dreamed that his band, The Flying Frotos, would lay center city with everyone cheering around them. The neon lights bending over his face like a brilliant halo of lasers. Whatever it was, Drizzle had a new pass time thanks to BetVictor Casino.

Drizzle wasn’t the first or the last to be turned on to online casinos either. People around the world enjoy playing UK casino games like blackjack and slots. With the convenience of WiFi and mobile phones, you can play these fun games anywhere. Whether you are stuck in a traffic jam or waiting in the doctor’s office, just use your phone to login and enjoy some time in the casino no matter where you are.

How Far will a Single Charge Take You?

The electric car revolution is coming, so now is the time to get familiar with some of the terminology that helps to explain how all of this wonderful new technology will operate. Electric vehicles and the electric scooter differ from gasoline-powered vehicles in that the source of electric vehicles power is solely batteries. In order to keep your electric vehicle’s batteries fully charged and in optimal condition it is important to understand what happens to your vehicle when you charge the batteries and how that affects the life of the batteries over time.

When you visit a charging station for the hybrid car, charging information is given in the form of ranges and recharge times. You will find that mileage for a full charge is given as a range of values since a variety of factors influence how far you will be able to drive on a given charge. For example, the kind of driver that you are can make a big difference in how far you can drive on a recharge. If you have good driving habits like smooth acceleration and stopping, as well as driving at consistent speeds you can greatly improve the distance you are able to cover after a charge.

Along with your driving habits, the other features that you are using in your electric vehicle determine how much distance you get from a single charge. If you like to keep the air-conditioning on when you are driving you will have to sacrifice some distance, much in the same way that leaving the air-conditioning on in an internal combustion engine vehicle reduces the mpg. Size matters as well when it comes to electric vehicle batteries and alternative energy. Bigger batteries, in general, have longer range than smaller, lightweight batteries.

The charging process is also affected by a number of factors. Obviously if the battery has been completely depleted, it is going to take the full charging time. The on-board charger is another determining factor in how long it takes to charge the battery. A charging dock or charging station cannot provide more power than the on-board charger can handle. The greater the wattage that the on-board charger can handle, the faster the charging process will be. AC charges vary from DC charges in the length of time it takes for a charge, with DC charging stations providing a much faster charge time since they bypass the on-board charger.

When it comes to the distance that you can travel on a single charge in an electrical vehicle there are enough variables in play that you should err on the side of caution and make sure that you are never to far away from home or a charging station when you start to reach the lower end of the projected range for your vehicle. If you keep close tabs on the range you will never need to worry about running out of electricity before you reach your destination. If you want to move towards green living in your daily life, check out the new kits that allow you do a conversion to electric car with your existing automobile.

Southern Smoking is Going Electric!

Electronic cigarettes are changing the way people smoke in the south, particularly in Mississippi. What started as a simple cigarette alternative to the residents of Mississippi has quickly become the darling of many people in the smoking community looking for different ways to get their cigarettes. People who are looking for a cigarette they can smoke anywhere have taken refuge in the electronic cigarette. Those who are concerned about the environmental impact of cigarettes love the reusable nature of the e-cig with its cartridge based system.

Most people’s first look at electronic cigarettes is a confused one. They see something that looks in some cases nothing like a traditional cigarette, and yet people seem to love smoking them and in most cases it is clear that nothing is burning. On closer inspection they find the red LED and realize that it’s all simulated and the vapor is being released instead of the smoke. A conversation will naturally start about what started the person on e-cigs. Typically, those who switch gush about all the benefits. Many even share their experiences through Electric Cigarettes Reviews to encourage other smokers to make the switch.

One of the biggest benefits is the lack of negative ingredients in the e-cigarette. Tobacco is completely absent from all the cartridges. It has been replaced by a tobacco flavoring along with the nicotine. This gives you all the benefits of electronic cigarettes and none of the negative consequences of smoking traditional tobacco cigs. This gives people the freedom to take in as much nicotine as they like without constantly being worried about health risks, which is a huge change from the times of old that involved a lot of guilt.

According to the V2 Cig Review, another key benefit is the ability to smoke electronic cigarettes anywhere that you want. Most public places have banned cigarettes because of the dangers of secondhand smoke. Because of the nature of electronic cigarettes, no such ban exists. The vapor is harmless because it doesn’t contain the tobacco. This means that you can smoke in a restaurant, or at your desk at work. It is virtually odorless so no one will be bothered by the vapor that is being released into the air.

The customization available with specific cartridges and flavors allows people to change up the way they smoke. Most would just try a different brand, but most tobacco cigarettes are pretty similar. With electronic cigarettes you can get a variety of flavors like vanilla, mint, or chocolate. These new types are a great way to try a random cigarette when you are in the mood for something besides the traditional type. Check out the Blu Cigs Review online to learn more about the flavors available in the new e-smoking market.

Electronic Cigarettes Will Prolong Your Pets Life

We are well aware of the fact that smoking is bad for us. We know that the longer and heavier that we smoke, the greater the chances are of us developing a future health problem that will most likely significantly shorten our life. We are also painfully aware of the problems with secondhand smoke. Since we don’t want to put the lives of our loved ones at risk we do things like stand outside in the middle of a blizzard just so that we can enjoy a cigarette without exposing them to secondhand smoke.

What we don’t consider is what our smoking habit does to our pets. Not only do our pets love us, but they want to be with us all the time, this is especially true if you have a dog. If you are outside smoking a cigarette, they want to be outside to. What our pets don’t understand is that the secondhand smoke is just as bad for them as it is for humans. They don’t make any attempt to cut back on their exposure but simply continue to inhale the smoke filled air. Over time the constant exposure to the smoke not only shortens their life, but it can also result in some really hefty vet bills.

Electronic cigarettes provide you with a way that you can enjoy the relaxing benefits of nicotine and not put the lives of our pets at risk. Electronic cigarettes like The Safe Cig and Green Smoke are completely smoke free. You can use them all day long and you will not force you pet to inhale anything that could result in them developing lung cancer, even if they are riding in the car with you. Since the electronic cigarettes are also ash free, you do not have to worry about your pet knocking the cig from your hand and getting burned when it falls on them or if the trod on it.

One of the best ways to learn and stop asking, what is an e cigarette, is by setting aside some time to read through electronic cigarettes review after review. Reading these reviews will provide you with an accurate assessment of the quality of the cigarette and how it compares to other brands. A good review will discuss how quickly the e-cigs lithium battery charged and how long the charge lasted. You will want to pay careful attention to the comments that pertain to both the flavor and density of the vapor. I recommend starting with some Smoke Tip Reviews and at least one V2 Cigs Review. The more reviews you read, the better your chances are of getting an accurate idea of how happy you will be with the electronic cigarette brand.

When you finally decide to buy one of the best e-cigs you are going to want to make sure that you purchase a starter kit. The kits are the most affordable way to not only get some batteries and cartridges. They are also an excellent way to make sure that you get all of the accessories that you need to get the maximum amount of pleasure from your electronic cigarette.

Exploring Mississippi Politics

The 2011 election to determine the position of the Governor’s seat has already raised the bar for candidates. Fundraising efforts for publicity campaigns already have people shaking their heads at what is to come in coming months. Due to term-limit constraints, Governor Haley Barbour will not be eligible to run this term, which leaves the seat up for grabs.

The candidates will have to step it up this year to gain the votes of people. Typically known as a republican state, there are many contenders making a run this year including conservative and non-partisan candidates. With the election coming on the heels of the recent flooding, candidates will be wise to get their hands dirty and reach out to the people through more than just campaigning. Voters who have been affected by this recent flooding will want direct help and a representative who will stand up and fight for aid for them. This election year will not pass with a mere shaking of the hands. Especially since the governor’s office estimates more than $250 million in loss for the state just from flooding alone.

In addition to the floods, the coast is still feeling the effects of  last year’s oil spill and the lasting impact it has made on many lives of residents of the state. Coupled with the financial recession and unemployment at an all time high the candidates for this election will need to pull some rabbits of hats to prove to the public that they will bring jobs to state and improve commerce. Voters will be more determined than ever to vote for a candidate that will directly improve their lives over the most popular vote or one who raises the most funds for advertising. The 2011 Governor’s race is surely to be a race you will not want to sit back and miss.

Mississippi Still Plagued by Flooding

May brought deadly floods to Mississippi and some of the residents there will likely face complete loss of their homes. As the waters begin to recede the towns are slowly reopening up roads for passage. Inspections from flood damage are taking much longer than initially inspected, causing delays in road use and in clean-up efforts. While FEMA and Red Cross can be found on the scene, recent tornados throughout the United States have limited help and caused additional delays.

The Red Cross and many other disaster relief teams from private organizations have provided meals, shelter and toiletries for the many that have been affected by the flood. It will take a great deal of time before the total amount of damage is determined. Volunteers are expected to continue to come in as the waters recede and the rebuilding and recovery efforts begin.

Insurance companies are finding themselves flooded with claims as the waters begin to recede. Since so many residents do not have flood insurance, they may face total loss. Many residents have already relocated, living with families members elsewhere. Some remain in shelters. For those who stuck it out the feelings of disbelief, fear and sadness encompass their current daily life. Many businesses are not able to open as well, putting many out of a home and a job. Even local wildlife has been displaced by the floods and several animals have been spotted in town, including large alligators.

While work continues on the main levee, residents continue to hope that more rainfall will hold off and that they will be able to pick up the pieces and rebuild their lives. Safety will be the first priority in reopening roads and bridges. It is certain that more residents will need aid than ever before in light of the loss of homes and jobs due to the recent floods.
